The photographs in this book were taken between 1991 and 1993, on the island of Schiermonnikoog, in the North Sea. Around the island, when the sea and the sand no longer touch each other, the wind inscribes its own trace, which is an effacement. Nothing, then, remains - of light upon moving air - except the ultimate presence of a withdrawal, the photographer dissidence. His images, which are imprints, become the imprint of a disappearance. Silence has been embodied.
